There are two (or potentially more) distinct tables: the one for
German residents and the one for
US residents. (you can obtain it by changing the country). So i just inferred, since it mentions US and $1000 number that it has to do something specific with the US.
While I certainly agree that legally it is hard to proclaim that the charges are capped at $1000, then, the award chart is highly misleading as it clearly states:
"Taxes, fees and carrier charges up to $1000 may apply". Hence, I used the term "capping" because that's what it reads.
Now, what does all of this mean (US, $1000 number) ?

USA can mean many things.
It could be flights to, from, whole inside the US or whatever?
You cannot legally derive with your statement "taxes and fees for the residents of US are capped at $1000. "
