Always wanted to see the Northern lights, but with a notable lack of success so far despite winter trips to Iceland. Never really thought of looking on a flight, but it seems the Tokyo route goes quite far North over Siberia.
Yes, saw a fantastic display on an NRT-LHR in 1994. And to add to it, we were allowed to visit the cockpit and get an even better view. In those days, economy was upstairs on the 744. Was in December so it was dark enough that far north, even though it is a "daylight" flight.
