If you were fortunate enough to retain full mileage credit for the portion flown & received a refund... probably best not to publicize it on FT. While it's unlikely UA will rectify its error, it's probable it'll be integrated into future training exercises.
I recently had a trip in vain. I was promised in person by CS that I'd get a full refund. I didn't when I saw my PQD post. I also received PQM. It was not worth letting it go as UA kept about 60% of the fare of about $670 and the cpm was too high (and I don't need to purchase miles).

Had to call the premier line. When I mentioned that I didn't want to have to do anything else, I said the simplest thing to do would be to give me an e-cert. Well, the UA rep said no and completed the refund request for me. However, something interesting happened.

The original partial refund was rescinded, I was then refunded $170, and given an e-cert for the remainder of the ticket, or $500, that expires in a year. Now, I need to buy int'l tickets and will use that up in a nano-second. However, I thought a refund is a refund, not an e-cert. The entire process took about 30 days.
