I've seen the Aurora a few times from flights, assuming either a) the flight itself goes far North enough and/or b) the Auroral oval comes far enough South to be visible.

I remember a particularly good show on an SFO-LHR flight with VS to the point that the flight deck pinged downstairs. I was sat at the Upper bar at the time, and we crammed around the window at 2L, while two of the cabin crew hot-footed it to the flight deck for a better view!

The FSM discreetly went through the cabin mentioning it to people who were not sleeping and were on the correct side of the aircraft. Mostly green with a bit of purple that evening.

Seeing enough of the sky out of a cabin window is one of the challenges.

Last January I went to Abisko in Swedish Lapland - which is not far from Kiruna where the Ice Hotel is located, and got a very good auroral display one evening, but some auroral activity all evenings.
