TPs when AA/OW reroutes to lower TP flight

Dear All,
it's a while since I've been on, but it's good to be back!
The wife and I are off on a multi-city trip around the US and Mexico, and have been able to book all our flights using OW metal, which should give us enough points for silver level (retained in my wife's case, from Bronze in mine). One of our flights (booked back in October) was LAX to EWR in First on AA, earning 210 TPs (according to BA.com). I've got a note this morning from AA to say that they have re-routed us LAX-ORD, ORD-EWR (looks like they are cancelling the direct LAX-EWR route from end-Feb). This now only gives us 120 TPs (60+60) , which will mean that we miss the Silver card target. We'd booked the original flight in F (versus Econ) since it would get us the 210 TPs, and now if I look at cancelling and changing to LAX-JFK the price for F has now tripled to $2000.
Will BA (upon showing them the forced itinerary change etc.) be willing/able to credit the original TPs to our accounts?
I've checked through the forum but can't find a specific answer to the problem - plenty on if BA shift you onto a non-OW airline, but not if AA do it.
Thanks in advance.
