This is fine for award flights, but having your status on DL gets you more upgrades on DL flights as well as SkyTeam SkyPriority, elite IROPs handling, lounge access, etc. Unless you don't fly much (under 50,000 MQM per year), it wouldn't make sense to fly DL but credit to AS.
