Here's my reasoning:
  • All seats on the E190 offer fantastic leg room
  • All overhead bins are more constrained volumetrically than the mainline A320 brethren where on the Embraers it simply isn't possible to stow an IATA sized carry on case wheels in. It only fits sideways, which is less efficient. Coats can just about squeeze in behind the case but only works if you don't mind creases.
  • At LCY, both front and rear doors are used for boarding and alighting.
  • The prized seats at the very front have naff all overhead storage so only worth selecting if liberated from carry on baggage
  • London City flights are the domain of bankers - lemmings who naturally flock towards the front of the cabin, blindly unaware of the empty cabin that often lies beyond.

Still, better than those awful Avros
I also employ this when I have hold luggage. There's no rush off the plane and the chances of spare seats down the very back is much higher as the lemmings are up the front.

Although on a couple of occasions now MH has unceremoniously asked me to move into business when they have seen me down the back on a packed flight.^
