1. I haven't found a good coupon code. They had a $25 for a hotel stay a while back, but I've never seen a car rental one.
2. You can't establish which one for certain until after you have paid. I'm not aware of any websites that guess which rental car company you will get (like they have for hotel stays). If the rental company brand absolutely matters, you need to book through other venues. My last one was with Hertz, fwiw.
With hotwire, you're getting a pretty good deal (usually) in exchange for prepaying, and not knowing the rental company until you book. If you don't like those terms, you'll probably be more comfortable booking through other venues.
