I'm curious, why can't you call the guest to ask if they left the item? I've wondered about this before (left a really good pillow in a hotel but didn't want to drive many miles out of my way to go back and retrieve it): assuming it's not an item attractive to thieves so it actually gets turned into L&F, you know which room it came from and who the guest was in that room at that time... why not give them a call?
