Those are excellent points. That's one reason that despite being based in NYC I still credit status miles to AC to hope to stay as SE (first time SE this year and I'm so blessed with IKK availability on reward flights), and I use my Chase CC to credit miles to UA for upgrades + small copay and redeem saver award flights with minimal co-pay, best of both worlds.
