And with that, I think you've answered yourself. You choose not to fly. If you're not flying then you're not going to maintain status with anybody, so your 'tempted to look elsewhere' point is moot.
This is no different from a point made earlier; if I was to change jobs for a year so I was staying in one office could I then ask for a suspension because I'll be back flying again in a year? I might be looking after an aged parent, an ill partner, just fancy a desk of my own ... the reasons don't matter.
