I am the father. Still, I choose to not travel during the first year of little planestupid's life as I want to see him/her grow up. Never mind any legal or ethical implications, I think there's a very obvious business case here: BA suspending my EC membership for a year won't cost them anything (other than verifying my fatherhood, which can easily be done by asking for a birth certificate). When I'm done with my break I get my status back and BA gets a loyal customer back. If I lose my status and have to start working my way up again I will be tempted to look elsewhere for my flights. This is what I meant by win-win.
