I wonder if anyone has applied their point balance to past travel expenses rather than converting to AE miles. I thought there were two ways of using the points, by directly paying for travel with the points, or by applying them to past travel spending. However, I have never redeemed any points by either method and thought I'd ask if anyone had done that.
I've done both.
If you book through their Expedia portal, you can choose how many points to redeem (in increments of 10k), and then you just pay for the remainder.
If you book somewhere else, you just call in, tell them the transaction, and they'll post a credit in a couple days.
