Thanks for all the helpful replies.

For those of you who haven't flown an Air Canada E190 before, every seat comes with AVOD and power, via a USB port.

The Y seats in row 16 and forward have 33 inch pitch. That's a better travel experience than many E+ seats on United, from my perspective. But I did buy a Business class ticket, and was hoping for good advice from the wisdom of this crowd.

As for why I posted before calling Air Canada, I did confirm that AC's ORS system had classified my P fare as Tango, and that I was being offered Y seat selection through AC's online portal, which now permits seat selection for bookings made through external channels.

Does every IT problem with UA or other carriers' online reservation and fare systems now require telephone verification with a CSR before it can be reported on FlyerTalk? I never claimed that I'd been screwed (yet), but I do recall that Mitchmu was screwed on such a V-UP fare big time a year or so ago. Anyone who read through his tale of woe in flying to PTY would be hard pressed to come up with another term for what happened to him.

I'm happy to report that UA Insider has reached out to me and confirmed that there is a problem with the mapping fare codes between UA and AC on this kind of booking.

I'll report back with the results of both the 'backroom' intervention at United, as well as the actual trip itself - which won't be until late December.

I'm still expecting that any sked changes, IRROPS, or similar wild cards could throw this booking into disarray, with me and Mrs. Transportprof winding up near the last row of E-, toilet area, that Senator Frist experienced recently. That's what I meant when I wrote that booking a V-UP fare is living dangerously.
