Really, the moving walkways at airports need to be twice as wide. My proposed design -
- Lane 1: Standees
- Lane 2: People chatting with standees: "Oh no he didn't!"
- Lane 3: Walkers with no particular place to go and no particular place to be. Could also be referred to as the 'aimless' lane.
- Lane 4: Walkers with a place to go and a place to be (e.g. a connecting gate)
You might think a 'people running to make a connection' lane might also be useful, however this lane would be the corridor parallel to the moving walkway the use of which would still be faster than any of the four lanes above.
