In fact you can request a western bed at Gora Kadan, although I must say that the futons were incredibly comfortable. Some of the accommodation has traditional western beds as standard.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but since you stayed there, perhaps you can offer some insight.
I booked a "Kadan Suite - Fuji/Ume" with an outdoor stone bath. It seems that these stone baths are nicer, but the rooms with wooden baths have better views (perhaps they are higher up?).
Did you get a sense for which type of room was better?
