Well said. Basically, if you want to find a cool bar, you can call your hotel concierge (Portman is the best in SH btw 6279 8888). But, if you want the random girl who spends her days reading War and Peace to bring you to Nanluoguxiang, Wechat is the solution. "Local" is important, and I don't know of any standard apps the address this.
