when in China, the apps that I use the most are: GoogleMaps; Google translate; Skype; a VPN (not really an app, I know); the various subway apps such http://www.explorebj.com/subway/; waygo which translates menu items using the camera.
I had the China taxi book app but deleted it because it did not work. I just restored it now with a fresh version and it still doesn't work.
