I have a "big" birthday coming up mid-March and one possibility for a celebratory trip is this; the trip would begin with a few nights in Tokyo, on to a night or two in a ryokan and then a beach in SE Asia.

I have ideas for lodging in Tokyo and thoughts for the beach but I'm stymied by the ryokan.

My idea of heaven would have this luxury ryokan riverside, in forested green rolling hills (I am aware it's still winter in Japan) with a lovely, traditional Japanese town nearby. My perfect ryokan would also have some sort of Western bedding for my bad back and it would be within reasonable distance of Tokyo.

Does such a place exist or should I move on to my next trip fantasy?
