Seats usually open up at the last minute. The number of seats is this issue, which is why I am thinking about splitting 2 in one cabin and 1 in the other.
My current strategy is to get these tickets now. Then, when there is X saver availability on the right date, move to that and wait list the correct cabin. If BF or GF saver never opens up, we'll take the coach seats on the non-stop rather than change planes, and the overpaid miles will be refunded. If nothing on the correct date ever opens up, I will, at the last minute switch to standard award coach seats on the correct date. I don't want to spend that many miles for coach seats, but we do have to get home (I got our three outbound GF saver seats back in November).
The devaluation should be irrelevant to this, as no BF saver seats have been opened up yet for our dates (I have been checking daily). No one has had the opportunity to book these seats at the saver rate. BF is wide open and most GF seats are still open as well. Additionally, the devaluation may help us, because it will cost others more to redeem for these seats once/if they do open up.
