However, if you go back to when airline lounges first started selling memberships, they served drinks but very little food. For example, TWA had mini fat pretzels and nothing else food wise IIRC. Also, it was not an open bar: drinks were served by waiters/waitresses and only coffee/tea/water and the pretzels were free.
