Hello all.
Not sure how much of a 'post your introduction' thread this still is, or really how much I will be welcome here (but you all seem a nice bunch!), following a past couple of posts I have already made, and this introduction where I reveal a bit more about myself.
Anyway, basically, I am not anywhere near as seasoned as most of you lot when it comes to luxury travel. However, thanks to a good upbringing and my dad's love for travel, we did go to a few places and stayed at some very nice and exclusive places when I was younger, all the way up to my late teens.
It is this, and the ability to put together two sentences, that ended up with me getting a freelance/part time job as a luxury travel (and food) writer. So, confession, really...a post I had made earlier was actually an article I had written. Apologies for that, should have made it clear in advance! But I just posted to see what the response was like and how people would react to it.
Now, this is where it gets a bit complicated, I guess.
As a luxury travel writer, I often get comped at many of the places I now visit and write for. And while I try to write fairly honest reviews, the reviews generally highlight the positives and downplay (or don't mention) the negatives. The comps are sometimes provided by hotels (so they know I am coming...therefore perhaps it can be hard to evaluate things such as service), and sometimes they are comped by a third party (the hotel doesn't know I am coming as a reviewer).
What I'm basically saying is, this forum (and specifically username, so not posting under my own name) gives me an outlet to be a little bit more honest still about the places I stay at. At the very least, it perhaps allows me to introduce a few places that may be of interest to fellow travellers here, that perhaps they may not have visited but I may have.
I try to remain impartial and look at everything in an overall sense - and hope you guys will give me the chance to be a part of this forum and to contribute my completely honest thoughts and opinions of the places I have stayed at, and to partake in other ongoing discussions.
Thanks!
