BA call centre agent: fare bucket availability is a secret!
Strange thing happened today.
I called to change my return flight from HEL tomorrow to an earlier flight. I was in a discounted fare and wanted to see how much the fare change would be. I then wanted to think about whether that last meeting really mattered or whether I could get home earlier.
All relatively easily sorted out and I told her I would call back later to confirm. In passing I said to her something along the lines of: I see you're still selling tix at J9C9D9Y9B9 so one way or another I'm pretty certain to get home on that flight.
Pause.
"How do you know that?"
"Well, I have access to a subscription service that shows me what fares you are willing to sell."
"Are you the travel agent?"
"No, just a frequent traveller with an interest in these things."
"You should not have access to this information if you're not an airline or a travel agent."
"Pardon? It's public information available from dozens of websites."
"Really? I didn't know that. Interesting. I'll have to check with my supervisor."
Weird, I've never had that.
