From the mortgages I got they didnt care about the credit score all that much as long as you were well within a certain range. As long as you well within the excellent range a single credit pull (even hard pull) doesnt impact it that much. If you are borderline then yes you should be very careful.
Agreed, although these days it pays to be insanely careful anyway. We have 800+ ratings and I would still be cautious about a pull in the leadup to a mortgage. For anything else I wouldn't care, no sane number of pulls would lower it enough to be a problem.
