There have been a # of LA area Dos over the years. Most are just meal-based, but some incorporated more - touring an area or a studio.

Often, but not always, they were held near the LAX area as it's a mid-point (mutually inconvenient to everyone ) with a variety of freeways nearby, or close for those flying in to LA who want to meet up on a layover.

We had a # of lunch Dos on the weekend a few years back when AA had some mistake fare/promo that everyone hopped on & FTers were constantly flying in/out of LA. That's the other thing to keep in mind. In addition to Dos you might plan, keep an eye in CommunityBuzz where someone posts they'll be in LA on X date & wants to get together for dinner. When I lived in LA I planned some Dos. Now that I live elsewhere I normally post that I'll be in LA on X dates & who wants to meet up; I do the same on long layovers at ORD & meet some of the ORD folk.

LA Do locations have been at a Thai place in Westchester (Siam), In-n-Out Burger next to LAX, Panchos in Manhattan Beach (Mexican), Petros in Manhattan Beach (Greek), Proud Bird near LAX, a place in Long Beach overlooking the boats that has 100 beers on tap (name escapes me; Jailer would know), and when sweetwillie is in town usually somewhere interesting like Chinatown because he's the king of good eats.

Organizing a meal event isn't that difficult. Pick the place, the date & time, find out if they take ressies, keep track of the thread to see who can make it/who's a maybe. Figure out a meeting spot at the location or a way to identify each other. I often made the reservation name "Flyertalk". Remind everyone that not all locations accept multiple credit cards , so to bring some cash in case there's a limit on how many cc's they'll take. The best way to sort out the bill is to pass it around & tell everyone to figure out their sub-total for what they ate/drank & add 25% (25% covers tax & tip). That usually prevents shortages.

Have fun!

Cheers.
