Flying on United.. domestically and had a quick questions regarding Car Seats. Based on the web site, it seems like a car seat can be checked in for free. However, the agents on the phone seem to be thing otherwise. Does anyone have any recent experience of checking-in a car seat?

Also, if checking-in, do you just hand over the car seat or put it in some sort of bag?
