I am somewhat of a newbie to FlyerTalk so not sure if this is the correct forum to ask this in. We are flying to Sydney from Tucson on a one-way American Airlines FF ticket on Feb. 10. We fly TUS-LAX on an American coded flight and LAX-SYD on Qantas. Qantas has a very restrictive hand luggage policy (7 kg) but American only has a size based policy. If we are connecting to Qantas in LAX is it likely that Qantas will weigh our hand luggage as we board? We don't want to get "stuck" in LAX with two overweight hand luggage bags that we will be forced to check for hundreds of dollars. We will already be using our checked baggage allotment of 2 x 23kg bags each.

7 kg for hand luggage is awfully tight. My normal carry-on bag weighs half that empty!
