The TSA ID requirement states: Adult passengers (18 and over) are required to show a valid U.S. federal or state-issued photo ID in order to be allowed to go through the checkpoint and onto their flight.

Valid implies unexpired, so you would probably have to go through the "I don't have my ID" routine with the TSA - I suspect that's what the ticketing agent meant. Based on the info in this thread, I doubt a Facebook profile really works.
