When I stayed there in November for 9 days, I never noticed strong smoke smell in the lobby. I did see a couple of people smoking cigarettes at the bar when walking past there at night, but just on the path from the front desk to the guest room elevators, I never noticed it. I'm very sensitive to cigarettes with asthma-like symptoms and had no problems.

Probably this varies with the groups that happen to be there at the time you are there.

After thinking about this a lot, I think the reason I was upgraded was because I requested it using it via the NOR1 system. Since that was within the "rules" of upgrades and it was free, I think it cleared as a Gold. Just a helpful hint for those that book this as a Gold that it is worth the time requesting the NOR1 upgrade. I had another room on our second night and also requested a NOR1 for that room and it also cleared too.
I specifically unchecked the NOR1 upgrade as a Diamond, as I've heard rumors that if you get the Nor1 upgrade, you won't get any further upgrade. On arrival, I received no upgrade, and received the standard room. (Which was fine)

For those wondering, we did receive the Conrad Bears the first night (2) and also the Conrad Rubber Duck. While the Duck was replenished, the bears were not for the second night.
I'm actually stunned at this comment -- I went from the Conrad Tokyo to the Park Hyatt Tokyo for 3 nights, and found the PHT to be incredibly aged -- it looks like the rooms haven't been renovated since I was last there a decade ago.

Perhaps the floor was scratched up, but that was certainly not the main focus of attention in the room -- the furniture, carpet in the main room, and bathroom all looked modern and in great condition.

I did not receive a Conrad rubber duck, but did get the two little bears. (also not replenished).

I felt the lounge had an interesting setup with the main area where the drinks were served having a Home kitchen feel (Hard to describe, but those who have been there will understand). The lounge was constantly staffed by at least two employees who were quick to offer drinks and refills.

For Breakfast - the lounge had a variety of items available including hot items. A chef was available for made to order eggs and omelets. Breakfast not only included western food items, but also a variety of Japanese breakfast items (fish, rice, etc). I will say the highlight of the breakfast was the mini baguettes and the rice, both of which were nothing short of amazing.
Out of curiosity, did they give you the choice of eating in the main restaurant in the lobby for breakfast? They did for me as a Diamond, and I preferred that versus the Executive Lounge breakfast, though both were very good.

The selection mainly consisted of small appetizers which were artfully plated, however they constantly ran out and were random in terms of what was available. You definitely could not make a meal of this if you wanted to.
When I was there, we went to the Happy Hour a few times, and the quality of the food varied a lot from day to day. On one or two nights it did actually serve as a mini-dinner.
