Gold Stay at Conrad Tokyo

I just wrapped up a stay at the Conrad Tokyo and figured my experience would be helpful, especially for HH Gold members.

Location: The location of this hotel is fantastic for Transit. We arrived into Haneda on late flight and were able to easily navigate to the hotel using the Monorail and subway. We simply took the Monorail to the Last station and then walked to the Diamon subway station which is just outside the monorail line. From there you just take it to Shiodome. Its then about a five minute walk max to the hotel.

Arrival: We arrived to the hotel late in the evening (11 PM) and checked in at the main lobby. The lobby has a great view of Tokyo Bay. While the lobby is in good condition, it should be noted that it has a strong cigarette smoke smell at night. We only really noticed the smell in the lobby and not on the room floors.

Room Gold Upgrade: I had booked the room on points and had requested an upgrade to an Executive level room using the Nor1 system (the upgrade was showing free). I didn't attempt to contact the hotel any other way for the upgrade. I'm happy to report that the upgrade cleared and we were upgraded to an Executive level room. After thinking about this a lot, I think the reason I was upgraded was because I requested it using it via the NOR1 system. Since that was within the "rules" of upgrades and it was free, I think it cleared as a Gold. Just a helpful hint for those that book this as a Gold that it is worth the time requesting the NOR1 upgrade. I had another room on our second night and also requested a NOR1 for that room and it also cleared too.

Room: We had a room on the Executive floor. The room was in good condition, however the room did show signs of aging (much more so than the Park Hyatt Tokyo). The main floors at the entry into the room are laminate hardwood and it had a ton of scratches in it. The rest of the room was in pretty good condition. For those wondering, we did receive the Conrad Bears the first night (2) and also the Conrad Rubber Duck. While the Duck was replenished, the bears were not for the second night.

Executive Lounge: We attended the happy hour our second night and breakfast both days. We also attended Tea Service one afternoon. The lounge did get busy for happy hour, but not as much for breakfast. I felt the lounge had an interesting setup with the main area where the drinks were served having a Home kitchen feel (Hard to describe, but those who have been there will understand). The lounge was constantly staffed by at least two employees who were quick to offer drinks and refills.

For Breakfast - the lounge had a variety of items available including hot items. A chef was available for made to order eggs and omelets. Breakfast not only included western food items, but also a variety of Japanese breakfast items (fish, rice, etc). I will say the highlight of the breakfast was the mini baguettes and the rice, both of which were nothing short of amazing.

Happy Hour - Was probably the most disappointing service the lounge had. They had a variety of Wine, Beer, and soft drinks available for happy hour all of which were complimentary. The food selection left something to be desired and I've had much better in the states. The selection mainly consisted of small appetizers which were artfully plated, however they constantly ran out and were random in terms of what was available. You definitely could not make a meal of this if you wanted to.

Tea Service - This was great as they had a variety of scones and sweets available for Tea Service. Plenty of these were available and were all very good.

Overall Thoughts: We really liked this hotel overall. The staff were upbeat and very eager to help with anything they could. The lounge staff were very attentive. To us the strongest point of this hotel is its location. It is within a very short walk of both the subway and JR City lines including the loop JR line that goes around the city. Getting anywhere in the city from here was very very easy and quick. Our destinations from the hotel included Tokyo Disney, Tokyo National Museum, Shinjuku, and Shibuya. The fish market is a 15 minute walk from the hotel and even with temps around 30-40 degrees it was a pleasant walk.
