well I guess the way I wrote that wasnt too clear what I meant was fly in F on CX or EK to a remote place they fly to OR fly on QF to a remote or less traveled Australian destination like HBA or DRW although I like the JNB suggestion better because for QF you would essentially ride on a 737 to those outlaying airports and their domestic F isnt much different than ours
FWIW, there doesn't seem to be AS to QF redemption availability for destinations like Hobart. For my upcoming trip I was able to get QF F tickets LAX-SYD and return, but had to purchase the add-on ticket to Tasmania. I was told that QF is discontinuing F service to HBA and only will have J and Y service on that route.
That said, if you want the most bang for your buck (or I should say bang for your *miles*) then IMO you'll get far better value booking First with EK or CX than with QF. Better hard product, better service and better award space availability in F.
