Personally, I'm not convinced that the Middle East airlines enjoy the locational advantage for ex-US routes that they enjoy for ex-EU routes. They are certainly well-funded and aggressive, so will cause some problems, but I don't think it is the sea change that happened in Europe.
Personally, I think it will put pressure on fares ex-Boston. Anecdotal evidence, but many of my colleagues are looking forward to fly EK or TK to India as they don't have to fly the "disgruntled and rude European airlines" anymore.
Besides: "The cure for high airfares are high airfares"
