I've stayed at both. The JW Marquis is almost brand-new, 1100 feet tall and much more luxurious. But it's in the far west end of Dubai, pretty far away from many things (but reasonably close to the Burj Khalifa). I would choose it over the older but somewhat better located JW Dubai.

The JW Marquis is
NOT on the far West end of Dubai. In fact, it is nowhere near Emirates Living, Marina, or Jebel Ali which
ARE on the far western side of Dubai (I live in Emirates Hills when I am in Dubai, which is well West of Business Bay and still not the Westernmost neighbourhood)...
That said, there really is not a whole lot of interest to a tourist between the JW Marriott Marquis until you reach The Palm...
