Also, when renting in Europe, consider an aggregator such as
Auto Europe or at least some European car rental companies such as
Europcar.
My personal experience was for years the western chains of Hertz, Avis, National etc were obscenely priced compared to the above I reference. I've lately noticed that western chains have become more competitive, but it is still rare that I rent in Europe with a western chain.
