In which Asian city should I have my 23h 59m connection?

I am trying to put together a trip before UA mileage increases go into effect. I am going from EUG to DEL or CCU in Oct. Planning to go in coach and come back in business (2 one-ways). At least on outbound I want to stop somewhere for a break and to see some place new. I am trying to avoid UA metal. However, I am considering SFO-KIX on UA (787-8) to spend <24 in Osaka/Kyoto.

I know my choices include ICN and BKK, but already been. So that leaves HKG, NRT, TPE, PEK, KIX... I am thinking I would like KIX because I want to see Japanese culture. I am thinking NRT is too far out and too big/too congested(?) On my previous Asian trip I did not like SGN; loved PNH; BKK was good. Also I would really prefer to depart US on a daytime flight rather than 1 am flight. It seems more complicated to go through Europe, but I might like too see CPH or IST. Ease of airport <--> city should also be a consideration. WHAT ARE THE BEST PLACES for 24 HOURS???

Also I am aware I have the option of a stopover on a round trip. However, I have to book 2 one-ways (2 mileage plus accounts) which won't allow a stopover. But then I just read on a blog that I can link my 2 one-ways/make a change within 24 hours after reserving, so I will try that after I get things going. -Ed
