Part of it is probably Google rolling out the new version of Chrome (v 32) recently.

There are many reports of scroll bars not working on sites (not just AS; also FT and others), and pop-out windows causing "unresponsive window" and other errors.

Wouldn't surprise me if AS IT is trying to make sure its site works with the latest "upgrade" to the browser.
