You can switch from PAYG->Simple Choice, but you'd need a new SIM.

Changing to a Simple Choice plan that has roaming access will require a credit check. I don't know what sort of impact that has on your credit score.
Also, you need to use it in the US first, and need to have some % of use in US or it could get cut off.
