I don't buy timeshares, but certainly have looked into DVC.
Not getting in on the bottom floor with the low maintenance fees is hard to swallow. The maintenance fees are exhorbitant at this resort. Buying DVC elsewhere and booking at Aulani makes sense if in the one bedroom villa category.
AFAIK Animal Kingdom IIRC is the same price as Aulani, just with lower maintenance fees.
Aulani is a great resort. I think paying cash is good for the next couple years, and once they sell the real estate, its going to be tough getting in.
