I tried to book a trip that flies into EZE and then with side trips to FTE and IGR and after trying to call DL on this, their computer system did not show any flights to FTE and ITR.
You might sadly just have had an incompetent rep. AR is a relatively new partner and when I used SkyMiles to book AR flights in December and January, one rep said the system didn't show FTE. But I ended up with an award itinerary that included a weeklong stopover in FTE. Just a matter of finding a rep who knew how to call up AR flights (one rep brought up LAN flights so I knew he was on the wrong track).
OP, Delta did issue those award tickets on AR as 006- tickets. I know you're looking for MQD, but just let me note that AR can offer great value for Skymiles award flights. My wife and I flew all over the country in December (and then out of SCL) on two 20,000-mile award itineraries each. One was MVD-FTE (stopover)-USH (destination), USH-AEP.
