Exactly. There are almost NO options left for smokers. It has been a few years since I smoked but even then, it was extremely difficult to find a hotel that had any designated smoking rooms. So what is a traveling smoker to do?
1. Smoke in their room and try to be sneaky - hard to do in today's hermetically
sealed rooms. And then they face a large fine, if caught.
OR
2. Obey the rules and trot outdoors every waking hour or so to have a cig, which is I used to do - but hated.
Imagine if you had to go outdoors to take a pee every single time in every hotel you stay in. That is sort of what it is like for the average pack a day smoker except they would have to go outside even more often than the average urinator. OK, smoking is a bad habit chosen by the smoker and urinating is a universal necessity but if you are a heavy smoker, smoking IS a necessity just like peeing.
I remember staying in a non smoking hotel once that was 20 stories. It was winter and bitter cold and the.smoking area was a long walk away from the entrance. It was such a hassle...morning coffee smoke? Get dressed and go outside. Post sex smoke? Get dressed and go outside....And in that situation I had no other option, there simply were no other hotels in the area that had smoking rooms.
Smokers are judged very harshly and I think unfairly. Most smokers I have known are extremely considerate and do their best to keep it away from non-smokers.
I just think hotels should offer a few rooms for smokers instead of forcing them to deal with the bad options listed above.
