I do not believe any hotel repaints and replaces items. I use to work in hotel management and we would put a ozone machine (purifier) in room for a few hours and poof, any trace of smoking was gone.

I did get charged for smoking in an IHG room in AMS a few years ago that I was staying in on points, 250 EUR. GM came up to my room and I denied smoking cigarettes in the room, but may have partaken in something else. I argued with GM, but they said they would charge me or I had to leave...so I said go for it. When I got home I disputed the charge with cc company and received my entire charge back, which included some phone calls and food.

It is a bogus charge in my opinion and this is from a non-smoker
