Three weeks ago, on NYE, the guest in front of me at an Embassy Suites was cut-off (half an hour into the free cocktails). He couldn't have been more than 21-22 or so, and of course he was belligerent about it. Those are uncomfortable situations in the lobby of a big hotel, where they can summon a couple of big bouncer-types in an instant (and did just that, which quickly had the desired calming effect on the guest).
Last time I stayed at an ES was almost 11 years ago in the aftermath of an ice storm here in the Detroit area (luckily my neighborhood lost power early so I was able to get the hotel room). The ES in Southfield had a three drink limit and enforced it by giving the of-age guests three tickets to hand in at the bar in exchange for their drinks. Probably a good idea that weekend, as the hotel was packed with SE MI residents ready to party. But they held to the rule the following week when the hotel was back to mostly business guest normal (my neighborhood also was one of the last to get power back).
Back to DL, I've never asked for a double when flying Y, but back in my days of flying paid F on DL, I found the FAs were more than willing to hand out two minis at a time, even if I didn't ask for it
