Pictorial Review of DoubleTree West End London:

Stayed here with the wife in Dec. 2013 and thought I would share some pictures of the room for those interested.

I had booked a double bed room with points and cash (24k and £ 68) which is good value I find for London. We were upgraded to an executive double room (same as the deluxe rooms but in a different area with key card access required). ^

The hotel was very busy and seemed very popular due to the location to get to many areas of London. We had not stayed here before so it was nice to have a change.

As you can see above in my previous post, they were offering upgrades for reduced cash to some people for various things and also for rooms I believe but didn’t enquire.

The hotel is not far from Holburn tube station which is only about 250 meters away and offers great access with the central and piccadilly lines. There were several coffee shops and restaurants nearby as well so no need to go far for food or a place to watch people/meet/work. ^

Anyway, the entrance is quite nice with the reception straight ahead as you enter the building, with the bar area (Bar 92) to the right hand side. Rooms go off in all directions from the reception using different hallways and elevators which make it interesting.

We checked in early and the staff were very friendly but informed us that the room wasn’t quite ready (it was around 12 noon) so we checked our bags with the concierge and went out around London for a few hours (certainly no hardship!)

When we came back around 15:00 the room was ready and you can see the room in the pictures below. I had to get what I could as the wife was already spreading her bags everywhere and started making tea, etc…

Anyway, a decent room, not much of a view as we were looking across the road to an office block IIRC but still better than a wall!

The bathroom was great and big for a UK London DoubleTree but the room was still quite small for an exec room. I would be okay for a weekend here but not a week as barely place to put suitcases and certainly no space for a roll away bed. Families would need a family room or a second room here.

We received drink vouchers and used these after being out most of the evening, the bar was quite full and it has a nice feel to the place, unfortunately the staff were not that active and we ended up having to go find someone to take our orders. They were very polite and provided good service when the did come round but that was just not that often as they seemed to gather at the bar and have a chin wag amongst themselves more often.

Breakfast was very hectic, even for a London DT…be warned. Not for the faint hearted I assure you. I have rarely seen a place so packed and busy…the staff were great trying to clean up and keep bringing replacement dishes but it looked like a Harry Potter set at times…new dish of bacon…wait…now its gone again…We did go down at the busiest time to be fair but we stayed a while and it was packed throughout…I guess a lot of people take advantage of the upgrade offer and therefore it is busier than normal. The food was good I have to say, just you had to wait and get the elbows out to get any…

I’ll let the pictures do the rest of the talking, if you wish to have a bigger bathroom and a bathtub then this is a good choice if you are in DT’s in London as not all of them have one. Also, if you want the convenience of location and can get a good price or a good points and cash price then I would recommend this place…however, mostly I find this place priced at over £ 200 and it is not worth that kind of money in my opinion as there are several other good Hilton chain places available.

So all in all a good stay and worth checking availability and pricing for deals, especially as a Gold or Diamond.

Hope this helps.
