Another nice anecdote...
Easyjet started selling tix through GDS' about ten years ago, Ryanair offers seat assignments and flies form major first rate airports. The costs per seat mile are getting closer and closer to some of the legacy carriers, same with fares and profit warnings (even losses) for slower quarters.
I really wonder what makes a discount airline these days...
