Summary
A great car that is lacking a some features of its peers
I picked up this still new QX60 with 170 miles on it and still had that new car smell. This was my first time renting an Infinity and was very impressed at the quality materials in the cabin. There are no rock hard plastics to be found. What was found was lots of leather, wood and quality fabrics. The seats are a soft cushy leather, unlike the hard leather found in many cars.
The QX60 is equipped with a 3.5L V6, and a CVT. The engine is similar to what is found in other peers. There is a four mode selector that can tweak the engine and transmission to better suit the needs. The four modes are normal, sport, eco, and snow. I am not a fan of the CVT, and this one is no exception. While they are a little smoother on acceleration, they seem to be a little slower in getting up to speed.
This particular QX60 was in base trim, and had no other options for an as driven price of $42,000. There are a few things that were missing that are found in other peers; power lumbar support, rear parking sonar, bluetooth audio, aux input, and a touchscreen. All of the above can be added with additional options, but at $42,000, they should be included

.
The audio system had great clarity and depth of sound, but needed a more powerful amp, more speakers and a subwoofer

. I found it odd that it had RCA inputs, but no aux or bluetooth audio. Luckily a $4 Y cable from Walmart allowed me to hook up my phone to the RCA inputs, and basically turn it into an aux input. The screen was also not a touchscreen, so there were lots of button and knobs to access the menus.
The QX60 has a few nice features. The 2nd row can slide forward and back, which is a nice way to access the 3rd row. It is also a fun way to entertain the toddlers, by sliding them back and forth. The 2nd row also has the ability to recline some, making for a more comfortable ride. The QX60 also had a few quirks, such as the AC randomly turning on even when AUTO was not selected.
I've driven a lot of the PGAR's and would place this one in the top three, along with the Enclave and Durango. The Enclave and QX60 are both great looking vehicles, while the Durango looks menacing and could kick your butt. The QX60 and Enclave are both more luxury oriented, while the Durango is more rugged/ outdoor oriented. Which one is the best, depends on your personality and what you are looking for in a car. I personally like the look of the Durango, but would rent the Infinity again, if given the chance.
