Just to be clear - this is true per award, not per segment or per PNR. For example, if you had LAX-NRT and NRT-LAX on one itinerary, you could fly LAX-NRT and then have NRT-LAX redeposited. This is because they are debited as two one-way awards from your account even though they are ticketed on one reservation.
