Yah I mentioned "single" in this not in the sense that I was looking for action but more that I would be entertaining myself, being on my own schedule and like I said at some points traveling/walking alone at night.

The area is very safe. You are glad that you like walking as you may have a hard time getting a meter taxi at nighttime if you go to Silom as they normally quote fixed price when you are not far away. I would just walk and avoid the hustle of dealing with taxi drivers
Plenty to do. You may consider doing some side trips to Ayuthaya or the bridge over the Kwai river which are easily doable as day trips from BKK.
