I think that's the last PHX-HNL flight of the day so missing it would mean problems. If this is for vacation then leaving home a little earlier and a longer travel day isn't that big of a deal compared to losing a day of vacation IMHO.

For this situation, I definitely agree with aztimm and CMK10 and would not take a chance. And that's coming from someone who wouldn't hesitate to book a 40 minute connection in many circumstances.
