Also, I used to take package holidays, but "upgraded" to scheduled flights. Years of skiing and snowboarding in North America flying with Air Canada or United used to get me a stack of Diamond Club points back in the day when BMI was around. Silver status too !

Also, do you have any special events in the future ? I saved *A points for years, eventually my wife and I flew to Sydney on Thai in a Business/First mix for our honeymoon. Well worth it. I'm currently saving for her 40th in a few years, when we'll do New York or Boston in Business, perhaps First.
Think of it as a long term thing.
