+1...My recent experience is that the priority security lines are often faster these days and will often opt to use them even with PreCheck. I got really good at removing laptop, liquids, shoes, etc over the last decade so it's not a huge issue.
It seems that early mornings are especially bad as it seems to be the confluence of old people who don't mind getting up at 4am and the traditional crush of business travel.
